Congratulations to Chris Moore!

Chris Moore and his beautiful family are well-known and loved by all of us at FBC Sylva! Chris was recently recognized as the 2023 Overall Outstanding Staff member of the Facilities Management unit at Western Carolina University. We are so proud of Chris’ achievement and would lay a huge “AMEN!” to the accolades he received.  The announcement published by Western Carolina University stated the following:

By far, Chris received the most nominations of any candidate since the FM award program began in 2009. He has consistently proven himself to support any and all activities that he is associated with concerning overall safety and fire safety on campus. He responds to fire alarms day, night, holidays, weekends (even during his daughter’s birthday party). His opinion is always sought out for projects. As a former student, his heart is truly in the right place to keep students, staff, faculty and visitors safe at all times. Chris also serves on Staff Senate implementing positive changes to our staff, especially giving FM staff a voice. He is an outstanding employee and earned the respect of his peers. Chris is a huge asset to WCU and provides an excellent work ethic and can-do attitude.

Hurray for Our Nursery Workers of the Week!

Hurray for Melanie and Rob Stokely for being in charge of the nursery on New Year's Eve Sunday! We heard popsicles were part of the day!

Autumn Burnes will work in the nursery on January 7. We appreciate her taking time during her Christmas break from ASU to help.

A new schedule for nursery workers will be sent out in the next few days.  If you would like to help in the nursery and haven't been on the schedule, please contact Cheryl Beck.

There is still room on the schedule to serve “the least of these”
on Sunday mornings.  It is a blessing to see their smiles and enthusiasm as you spend
time with our infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
Please contact Cheryl Beck (cabeck@ncsu.edu) if you would like to help.

Coney Island Chili Dog Sauce

This is the recipe Scott McConnell used to make the chili at the baseball-themed reception for the Mathis family.  Scott hit it out of the ballpark with this one that he found on www.cooks.com!

Ingredients
1 pound ground beef chuck
1 large onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 six ounce can tomato paste
1 cup water
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon prepared yellow mustard
1 tablespoon dried, minced onion
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon celery seed
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin (heaping)
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions
Brown ground beef in a skillet, adding onions half way through.  Add minced garlic when meat is nearly done.  Add remaining ingredients; stir well to combine.  Simmer over low heat 15 minutes.  Serve over hot dogs, Coney Island style!
