The Ladies WMU groups will meet Tuesday, May 14th, at 1:00 in the Gathering Place.
Come to the Wednesday night supper and stay for a special evening that addresses the Mercy Challenge of ministering to the poorly clothed. Our GAs kick off the evening with an international fashion show. Although they will not be poorly clothed, they will remind us of the importance of culture and clothing. We'll hear a report from Charlie and Diane White about the clothing ministry they have been spearheading with poverty stricken counties in West Virginia. The evening will conclude with a hands-on missions project that will help bring warmth to the children receiving Christmas shoeboxes.
One more opportunity to minister: bring an item of clean, in good repair, clothing (or several items) for the Sylva Linings Resale Store. There will be a box for these items as you enter the MFC.
Thanks in advance for helping make our first quarterly Missions Night fun and informative!

WMU invites all children in grades 1-6 to participate in this special day aimed at getting kids excited about missions as they engage in a hands-on activity to serve in our community.
Here's the plan -- Meet at church at church at 9:30 a.m. We'll have doughnuts and milk and then pack goody bags* for our shut-ins.
Next we'll load up in vans and visit our church's shut-ins and deliver the goody bags.
Finally, we'll come back to church and enjoy some pizza!
Please register to participate by calling the Church Office at 586-2095 by March 21st. Parents and other adults are invited to attend also. Mission Friends are invited to join us, but they must be accompanied by a parent or other adult.
*Bring some items for the goody bags. Some ideas are snack crackers, mints, hand sanitizers, chapstick, etc. Bring several of each item.
Children and adults are invited to participate in Children's Missions Day sponsored by WMU on Saturday, March 23rd, from 9:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon. The focus this year is on spreading love to our church's shut-ins. Call the Church Office to sign up for this special event. See next week's Church Chimes for more details!

In cities such as Calcutta, India, many young girls are forced into the slavery of the sex trade because of dire poverty. Puja, for example, was especially at risk because she had lost both parents by the time she was a teen. But because the ConneXions artisan group was working in her community she was able to avoid even entertaining the idea of looking for oppressive or shameful jobs. She and other young women now earn a fair wage and receive vocational training at ConneXions, freeing them and their families from the vicious cycle of poverty.
On Monday, November 5th, at the Baptist Women Around the World Christmas Party in the Mission and Fellowship Center, you can see an example of the handwork Puja and other women have learned to do through the work of Worldcrafts. That day there will be an exhibit of Worldcrafts items and a catalog to help you do some early Christmas shopping while helping others. Worldcrafts (a project of WMU) and its local partners develop fair-trade businesses that provide sustainable income and offer eternal hope for impoverished people throughout the world.
In addition to the Worldcrafts presentation, there will be a delicious lunch and a World Day of Prayer emphasis. The program will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with lunch being served around noon. Even if you can only come on your lunch hour, please come. Cost for lunch is $5.00 and you are asked to register with the church office at 586-2095 by November 1st.
Won't you join other Baptist women around the world in prayer and do some fair-trade holiday shopping on November 5th? You'll be glad you did!
