Heck-Jones Mission Offering

The GA’s handed out envelopes and information on the Heck-Jones Mission Offering. If you have not returned your donation, please do it as soon as possible by placing the envelope in the offering plate on Sunday or leaving it in the office with Janice. The WMU office in Greensboro uses these donations to be self supportive of Cooperative Baptist Woman’s Missionary Union. The staff uses these funds to help with education for the churches in NC. They do a wonderful job!

Imagine If Every Student Had Access to a Literacy Tutor

NC Education Corps is an education non-profit that partners with local North Carolina public schools to recruit, educate, and support part-time “corps members” who serve as paid, high-impact early literacy tutors focused on building students’ foundational literacy skills. They have partnered with Jackson County public schools.

They are recruiting passionate, committed individuals who desire to become high-impact early literacy tutors for 12-16 hrs/week. Non-licensed corps members are paid at least $15 per hour and individuals with a teaching license are paid at least $25 per hour. Youth Sunday Fellowship – May 28

Our next Fourth Sunday Fellowship will be hosted by the Moores on Sunday, May 28. Transportation from the church will be provided by way of the church van. We will be gathering at the picnic shelter area on the road at the bottom of their hill. Our schedule will be similar to previous fellowships, finishing up around 3:00 PM. In case of rain we will relocate to the Church. So that we can get a count of who will be attending, please let us know by emailing us at fbcsylvayouth@gmail.com

Mission Moment 5.24.23

Rev. Cindy Wallace

For years, I limited my prayers to words—sometimes spoken, sometimes written, often sung—but always limited to written language. More recently, I have come to believe that my life itself is a prayer. Songwriter Carrie Newcomer expresses this idea beautifully in her song “Holy as a Day is Spent” when she says, “Holy is the familiar room and quiet moments in the afternoon, and folding sheets like folding hands to pray as only laundry can.” The song is about finding holy moments in everyday living and allowing our lives to be a prayer.

That is what prayer has become to me—moments throughout the day to find God in the ordinary. It’s taking time to appreciate the sun shining down, the squirrel that catches my dog’s eye, the phone call or text from my sons, the funny meme my husband sends— being thankful for the blessings, finding comfort in the pain, and seeking help in the struggle. And in those moments of doubt or fear, it is praying, “Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief,” and then taking the next step in faith, knowing I am not alone and I am always and forever loved.

Pray…Give…Go
