1st Explorers Update

The theme for 1st Explorers last week was “Do Jesus Stuff” and included these ways to be like Jesus: Be Kind, Tell the Truth, Share What You Have, and Forgive. The children completed the Cuba handprint craft—a project done with the children of our partner church in Holquin. Curtis Collins visited from the Health Department and in his fun and interesting way shared tips for being emotionally healthy. Homework time is going well and the children had lots of fun playing outside in the spring-like weather.

I'll Be the Clay

By Dr. Jeff Mathis

I hope my complaints about the weather have made the weather seem comparatively less annoying.”

Let’s pivot away from last weekend’s busted snow forecast and give our attention to the scripture we studied together on Sunday.

“Then the word of the LORD came to me: Can I not do with you, O house of Israel, just as this potter has done? says the LORD. Just like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.” (Jeremiah 18:5-6)

Consider these honest words and reflection from the musical artists, Casting Crowns. You can listen to their song, here.

“In the Hands of the Potter”

I still remember when I heard You call me by name
I’d follow You anywhere, knew I could trust You in anything
But now sorrow beats down on me, waiting for You to come through
I’m all alone with my questions, I’m dry and cracked open

And I thirst for You
And as I fall apart
Come flood this desert heart
Fall like the rain, Living Water
And I know Your way is best
Lord, help me find my rest
And I’ll be the clay
In the Hands of the Potter
My world is spinning, my life seems so out of control
Nailed, scarred hands tell the story of love that will never let go of me
Through the sunshine or rain, I know where my hope is found
What You started in me, I know You will complete from the inside out

And as I fall apart
Come flood this desert heart
Fall like the rain, Living Water
And I know Your way is best
Lord, help me find my rest
And I’ll be the clay
In the Hands of the Potter

My world is breaking me, Your love is shaping me
And now the enemy is afraid of what You’re making me
When my world is breaking me, Your love is shaping me
And now the enemy is afraid of what You’re making me

My world is breaking me, Your love is shaping me
And now the enemy is afraid of what You’re making me
And as I fall apart
Come flood this desert heart
Fall like the rain, Living Water
And I know Your way is best
Lord, help me find my rest
And I’ll be the clay
In the Hands of the Potter

And I’ll be the clay
In the Hands of the Potter

Hurray for Our Nursery Workers of the Week!

Thank you to Melanie Joiner for taking care of the nursery last Sunday. We heard that you had fun!

Nancy McConnell is in charge of the nursery February 19. Thank you, Nancy.

There is still room on the schedule to serve “the least of these”
on Sunday mornings.  It is a blessing to see their smiles and enthusiasm as you spend
time with our infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
Please contact Cheryl Beck (cabeck@ncsu.edu) if you would like to help.

Our First Baptist Family is Growing!

Help us welcome Sparrow Aubrey Ann Messer, a new addition to the family of Janelle and Cody messer and brother Siler!  Let's show our love by showering them with diapers and wipes.

THIS Sunday, February 12, bring a pack of diapers (any stage) or baby wipes with you to church, placing them on the table in the foyer of the sanctuary.  This will be a wonderful way to be an encouragement to this young family who are members of our church.  Janelle is currently serving as the chairperson of the 1st Explorers Committee.
