With a new year comes a new schedule for nursery workers. We appreciate all those who helped last year. A new schedule is being devised and will be sent out soon.

Check your basement and closets for that old boom box that was a staple in homes for several years. The 1st Explorers need a machine that will play cassette tapes. If you have one, contact Melanie Stokely. After School has been gifted with a good variety of cassette tapes and they need a way to play them. Thank you!
June 26–29 are the dates for PASSPORTKIDS this year, and the location will be different! We are going to Brevard College—a new experience for Sylva FBC children. The cost is still being determined, but a down payment of $75 is due by February 6. Please call or see Cheryl Beck for more information.
PASSPORTKIDS is a faith-building, fun-filled camp for children who have completed 3rd through 6th grades. Kids from many different parts of North Carolina and the Southeast will be there.

Ingredients
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup honey
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups rolled oats
2 cups ready to eat whole wheat cereal flakes
1 cup sunflower seeds
1 cup pepitas (pumpkin seeds)
3/4 cup sesame seeds
1/2 cup nuts
1/2 cup coconut
Instructions
Heat butter or margarine, vanilla, and honey in a large saucepan until butter is melted.
Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Spread on two jelly roll pans covered with parchment paper.
Bake at 350 degrees F. for 15-20 minutes or until golden. Cool, remove from pans; place in an airtight storage container and stir in 1 cup raisins.
Note: Do not add raisins before baking.

Good things are happening in the Children's Library at FBC! The section for preteens and early teens is being expanded. Look for new titles like The Ring of McAllister (a score-raising mystery featuring 1,046 must-know SAT vocabulary words); The Girl from Montana (an old west mystery); Chicken Soup for the Teen Soul (a collection of real-life stories by real-life teens), Lily B. on the Brink of Cool (a "notebook" by a budding writer); and Thunder (a novel of the McCabes set in the 1880s). Thanks to Jennie Hunter for donating several of these books recently.
In addition, there are great books and DVDs for infants, toddlers, and children.
