Online Directory for Our Active Attendees

Not a full-time resident of Jackson County but still want to stay in touch? We invite you to join our First Baptist Church of Sylva’s online directory! You may have heard about our recent implementation of an on-line directory for church members. We have created a group to include those who may not live here year round but who attend our services and/or events when they are here. We invite you to be a part of the directory so that you can you access to contact information for members and active-attendees, alike.

Hurray for Our Nursery Workers of the Week!

Janelle Messer enjoyed 3 little ones in the nursery on Sunday — all boys!
Talk about fun! Thank you, Janelle!

Nancy McConnell will be in the nursery on November 13. We appreciate you!

There is still room on the schedule to serve “the least of these”
on Sunday mornings.  It is a blessing to see their smiles and enthusiasm as you spend
time with our infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
Please contact Cheryl Beck (cabeck@ncsu.edu) if you would like to help.

What’s Your Favorite Bible Verse?

The children's Sunday School class wants to know! They are asking folks to write out their favorite verse and their name on a piece of paper located in a basket in the vestibule over the next 2 Sundays. Return the verse to the basket and the children will add it to their favorite verses on a bulletin board outside the Children's Sunday School room. This will make a great intergenerational bulletin board and a wonderful way for the children to learn more about the Bible and our congregation. Thank you for your help!

Needed: Magazines for Students

Students at the Jackson Community School need a diverse collection of magazines to assist them in class projects this fall. Please drop off any old magazines you might have in the Loving Kindness Center located next to the elevators beside the sanctuary. Brooke Drum is a teacher at the Jackson Community School and will gladly answer any question you have about ways that we can be good neighbors to their students.

Church Directory Photo Op!

Haven’t gotten a photo yet for our Church Directory?

We can help with that!

Nancy McConnell will be in the vestibule from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM this Sunday morning, November 6th with her iPhone camera in hand and will take your picture. Nancy will send the pictures to Janice, our church office assistant, for uploading to the directory.

Please see Nancy, and let’s get this directory updated so we can recognize and give personal greetings to our church friends.

1st Explorers Update

Captain America and Wonder Woman paid a visit to 1st Explorers on Halloween along with some other exciting characters. Their visit kicked off a holiday-themed week. The children enjoyed a Halloween party, creating cookie spiders and ghoulish popcorn hands and playing games.

In addition, during the week they learned about the Indian celebration called Diwali, National Stress Awareness Day, and National Community Service Day. They also came up with several holidays of their own. The RAs learned about All Saints Day on Wednesday, too.

Chapel activities tied in with the theme throughout the week. The children also made cards and pictures for residents of Skyland Nursing Center.

The older children are halfway through their cooking class with Cooperative Extension Agent Emily McClure. On Tuesday, they made smoothies using the "Blender Bike". The classes incorporate basic food preparation skills, nutrition, and smart food buying. Thank you to Emily and Heather Gordon for providing this enrichment activity for our older 1st Explorers.

Thank you to Tonya Lloyd who has been working at check-in/check-out on Wednesdays for several weeks. Thank you to Diane White for preparing snacks for several Fridays and to Charlie White and Gaye Buchanan for continuing to work check-in/check-out. Also, a huge thanks to the 1st Explorers staff for their enthusiasm and love for the children in their care.

Thank you to FBC for your continuing support of this ministry. If you would like to volunteer anytime, please talk with Cheryl Beck.
