Captain America and Wonder Woman paid a visit to 1st Explorers on Halloween along with some other exciting characters. Their visit kicked off a holiday-themed week. The children enjoyed a Halloween party, creating cookie spiders and ghoulish popcorn hands and playing games.
In addition, during the week they learned about the Indian celebration called Diwali, National Stress Awareness Day, and National Community Service Day. They also came up with several holidays of their own. The RAs learned about All Saints Day on Wednesday, too.
Chapel activities tied in with the theme throughout the week. The children also made cards and pictures for residents of Skyland Nursing Center.
The older children are halfway through their cooking class with Cooperative Extension Agent Emily McClure. On Tuesday, they made smoothies using the "Blender Bike". The classes incorporate basic food preparation skills, nutrition, and smart food buying. Thank you to Emily and Heather Gordon for providing this enrichment activity for our older 1st Explorers.
Thank you to Tonya Lloyd who has been working at check-in/check-out on Wednesdays for several weeks. Thank you to Diane White for preparing snacks for several Fridays and to Charlie White and Gaye Buchanan for continuing to work check-in/check-out. Also, a huge thanks to the 1st Explorers staff for their enthusiasm and love for the children in their care.
Thank you to FBC for your continuing support of this ministry. If you would like to volunteer anytime, please talk with Cheryl Beck.
