Save the Dates!

by Dr. Jeff Mathis

In addition to our robust children and youth offerings this summer, we have three specific events that we want you to reserve on your church calendar. We know summer is just a different kind of busy, so we're keeping it simple! We have scheduled one church-wide event per month through August.

Please put these events on your calendar and invite your friends to come along.

Vespers at Waterrock Knob, Wednesday, June 22 at 6:00 PM
After the heat we've endured this week, our trip up to 6,000 feet on the Blue Ridge Parkway is well-timed. You'll want to bring a lawn chair or picnic blanket as we gather on the grassy lawn at milepost 451 on the Parkway. Yes, you'll want to get your own supper from your kitchen or a local restaurant. We'll broaden and deepen our Vesper Service experience this year with some singing, devotion, and prayer time. Then, we'll delight in the cooler temperatures afterward as we throw a frisbee or prepare to take in the sunset.

Sunday School Class Shindigs in July
Our Sunday School Ministry at First Baptist is one of the greatest expressions of koinonia—or Christian fellowship—that we enjoy. Each Sunday School class has been challenged to find a time in July to gather outside of Sunday morning to have a cookout, relax on someone's back porch, or meet up at an area restaurant. You'll see updated information in the Chimes with a description of each class and details about their planned shindig. We see these shindigs as a way for our small groups to be together and for new folk to plug in!

Church Picnic at Deep Creek, Sunday, August 28, 2022
Yes, it's time for Ye Olde Church Picnic! The Deep Creek Pavilion makes for a lovely setting for a late afternoon covered-dish meal in the Smokies. For those who want to cool off in Deep Creek or tube the rapids above the pavilion, arrive early in the afternoon. For the rest of us who are more interested in getting our deviled eggs just right, you can drop off your food around 4:30 PM. We'll aim to eat around 5:00 PM, so don't eat a big lunch! In addition to the lawn games scattered around the pavilion, we'll throw in a new competition for 'Best Church Picnic Dessert.' Yes, we'll still need to bring a mess of green beans or slaw as we'll need some veggies. But let's emphasize the backside of dinner by bringing a dessert item that will be a competitive entry in our contest! Bragging rights and an award is at stake, people. Prepare now!

Please save the dates, y'all! Elevation, time together, and decadent desserts are in our future!
