Ingredients
1/2 cup margarine
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
2 cups all purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions
Cream the margarine and sugar. Add the egg and mix. Sift together and add to mixture the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the vanilla.
Divide dough into two parts. Chill 1-2 hours so it will be easy to handle. Roll dough, one part at a time, to 1/8 inch thickness and cut with cookie cutters. Transfer cookies to cookie sheet and bake at 375 degrees F. for 8-10 minutes or until lightly brown.
If desired, blend together 1 cup sifted confectioners sugar and 5 to 6 teaspoons water. Add food coloring, if desired. Brush glaze over cookies while still warm. Makes about 2 dozen cutout cookies.
