Mission Moment 11.3.21

Karen Alford | Mbarara, Uganda

Since 2017, Karen Alford has served in Mbarara, Uganda, after serving in Indonesia for nine years. Karen partners with Medical Teams International (MTI) to help meet medical needs in the Nakivale and Oruchinga refugee settlements. These settlements serve an estimated population of 120,000 refugees, mainly from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Burundi, Rwanda, Somalia, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Eritrea. Karen sees patients and focuses on building the capacity of local medicallytrained staff. Some clinics see upwards of 500 patients a day with only two or three clinicians. She also works with MTI’s newly-opened fistula repair clinic and supports the effective implementation of health projects. Most importantly, Karen shares the love of Christ with people affected by disaster, conflict and poverty.

Pray for:

  • Relief from ebola and pneumonic plague outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of Congo on the border of Uganda.

  • The fistula repair clinic and the women in need of its services as a result of maternal complication or sexual violence.

  • Opportunities to demonstrate the love of Christ.

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. –Lamentations 3:22-23
