An Invitation to Gather

Hello Friends!

You are cordially invited to gather with me and our church family this evening, Wednesday, March 18th at 6:00 PM.

You can dress casually for our event, but please—in fact—be dressed in something. Your entire family is invited to attend--even a beloved pet, or houseplant, may join us! Feel free to bring tasty snacks or a beverage to our gathering. You may choose to arrive early to our event to get a prime seat. We sense that rocking chairs on front porches, couches, loveseats, and a bench by your backyard stream will be popular places to lounge.

No, we will not be gathering at 669 West Main Street in Sylva. You will not be coming to church. Church will be coming to you.

Now, there are a couple of things that you might want to attend to before we gather at 6:00 PM tonight. We will be gathering with the help of some modern-day wizardry. If you have a smart device or tablet, a desktop or laptop computer, or even a good ‘ol fashioned telephone from the 20th century, you will be able to join us. We will be using the services of a product named Zoom Video Conferencing. There are a few things you can do this afternoon and evening to expedite your arrival at our gathering.

If you would like to use your smart phone or tablet, go to the app store and download the app, Zoom, and follow the directions to sign up. There is no fee to sign up. Setting this up beforehand will save you time when you try to connect.

If you would like to use your desktop or laptop computer, you can follow the link in the invitation and follow the directions. From there, you should be able to download the software to connect. Again, there is no fee to sign up. Setting this up beforehand will save you time when you try to connect.

If you would like to join us by telephone call, call our church office and we will give you a phone number and a code that you can use to join the meeting by phone.

If you would like to join us, please contact our church office by 4:30 PM today and we will be happy to give you instructions on how to join our Zoom Meeting.

What will we be doing when we arrive at our gathering? First, we’ll check in with one another. Yes, if you use a smart device or computer, you’ll be able to see one another

After we check in, we’ll share prayer requests and then pray together as a group. Finally, I’ll provide a brief devotion that has a St. Patrick’s Day ring to it. Our meeting will be in the 30-45 minute range.

It’s certainly a brave new world right now. But with the help of this technology, you won’t have to come to church to be church.

The church, like Jesus, will come to you.

*See* you tonight!

Jeff
