New Church Safety Team

The Deacons of our Church support the idea of establishing a safety team to address any emergencies that we may be faced with in the future. I have been in touch with our local Sheriff’s Department and they are willing to help establish and train a Safety Team for our church. The first step is to see who would be interested in being part of this team. There are many different needs to be filled to establish such a team. Thus many different skill sets will be needed. If you are interested in being part of the very first Safety Team established at Sylva First and are willing to participate in the required training please contact me at jddills1@gmail.com or by phone at 828-506-3815.

Thank you,
John Dills

Pray for Passportkids

On Sunday, June 30, around 10:30 a.m., seven children and their group leader will depart from church for Passport Camp at Montreat.  Brooke Dills will be leading the group which consists of Lucie Moore, Lexi Allen, Abby Pittman, Zoe Ellenburg, Ella Dux, Alex Wittekind, and Truman Joiner.  The theme of this year's camp is "Water." Through Bible study, missions activities, and fun they will learn more about the "Living Water" and about the importance of water in the world.

Please pray for the children and their chaperone that this will be a meaningful experience, deepening their faith, providing opportunities to develop friendships, and drawing them closer as part of our church.

Strawberry Pudding

My sister gave me this recipe years ago.  It’s a much requested favorite at summer gatherings.

2-3 pints of strawberries, sliced
1/2 cup sugar
1 large package strawberry Jello
1 large carton Cool Whip
2 packages (small) vanilla instant pudding
3 cups cold milk
1 carton (small) sour cream
1 box vanilla wafers

Instructions
Mix strawberries, sugar, and Jello in saucepan and heat until the gelatin is dissolved.  Mix pudding with 3 cups cold milk.  Fold in Cool Whip and sour cream.  Alternately layer vanilla wafers, pudding, and strawberries in a trifle bowl and chill.  Keep refrigerated.

Hurray for Our Nursery Workers of the Week!

It was a great day in the nursery this past Sunday with three infants/toddlers in their room and four preschoolers in another room. Wow! It was a busy place! Many thanks to Janelle Messer, Lucie Moore, Truman Joiner, Cheryl Beck, and Terri Bryan who just happened by and asked if she could help! Thank you, Terri, for reading to the children and talking with them.

Next Sunday, June 30th, Judy Henderson and Mary Lou Millwood have charge of the nursery. Thank you!

Don’t Forget About the Church Library Over the Summer!

A variety of books await toddlers, preschoolers, children, and youth in the Children's Library located across from the Gathering Room. If you read five books from the library before school starts, you will receive a prize. Anyone reading more than five books will receive another prize. Please let Cheryl Beck know when you have read five or more books.
