Hurray for Our Nursery Workers of the Week!

It was a busy day in the nursery this past Sunday!  Thank you to Sandi Allen, Lexi Allen,
and Sophie Powell for giving their time to work in the nursery.

There is still room on the schedule to serve “the least of these”
on Sunday mornings.  It is a blessing to see their smiles and enthusiasm as you spend
time with our infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
Please contact Cheryl Beck (cabeck@ncsu.edu) if you would like to help.

United Christian Ministries' Director Retiring in May

Our executive director, Karen Johnson, is retiring (again) at the end of May. We are so thankful for the time, energy, and love that she has poured into UCM in her years here. Her departure means that we are interviewing for a new executive director. If you know of anyone seeking work with a heart for ministry, please refer them to us!

The executive director position is permanent, part-time (30 hours per week). The director oversees all aspects of the food pantry, financial assistance programs, operational procedures, budgeting, etc., and supervises paid staff and our wonderful group of volunteers (about 40!). Applicants may submit a resume to chairucm1@gmail.com.

1st Explorers Ministry Update

Look at the daily schedule for last week to see the many good things that are happening with this important outreach of our church:

Monday:  Cheryl Beck read a special book during Chapel called The Three Trees.  The children enjoyed a lot of time outside in the beautiful weather.

Tuesday:  Reverend Blake Daniel from 1st Presbyterian Church led Chapel.  Afterwards, there was Bingo with some great prizes.  Then the 1st Explorers worked on Pen Pal letters. They are really enjoying receiving and writing letters to their Pen Pals!

Wednesday:  Pastor Jeff took the RAs to the sanctuary where he used the beautiful stained glass windows to explain the events that took place during Holy Week.  Mrs. Gaye and Mrs. Sandi made special Bible verse pennants with the GAs.

Thursday:  Reverend Donald Lott and his wife Wendy shared their ministry called Generation Kids.  They set up on the church lawn under the big magnolia tree.  The children enjoyed singing and dancing, a boys versus girls relay race, a puppet show, and a Bible lesson on the resurrection.

Friday:  Lorie Meservey led Chapel and discussed the Passover.  She brought a couple of Hebrew to English Bibles, a 100-year old copy of the Torah (a family heirloom), a scroll, and a mezuzah.  She also brought matzo crackers for the children and staff to try.  At the end, Mrs. Meservey blessed the 1st Explorers with a beautiful Hebrew prayer.

Andrew Beck was welcomed to 1st Explorers.  He will be helping out until the end of the school year.

Thank you to Charlie and Diane White and Mary Anne Roos for supplying snacks this week.

A big “thank-you” to Melanie Stokely, On-Site Coordinator, and her staff for making this ministry such a fun and inspiring place to be!
