Urgent Need for Volunteers!

The 1st Explorers After School Ministry college staff will be on Spring Break, March 6-10.  Luckily, Jackson County Schools will be closed March 9th and 10th, too.  Help is needed for the first part of the week when the program will be short staffed.  If you could help on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday (1 or more days) of that week from 2:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m., please let Cheryl Beck know.  You can enjoy interacting with the children, playing on the playground, helping serve snacks, being a friendly face from our church, etc.

You will be blessed, and the children will, too!

1st Explorers Update

“Birds” was the theme of After School the week of February 20-24. A variety of activities centered around this theme including Chapel. One highlight of the week was making bird feeders with pine cones, peanut butter and bird seed. Thank you to Jennie Hunter for supplying big pine cones!

Romona Monteith came from the Jackson County Public Library for a reading session with the children and she will be coming every other week. The 1st Explorers were excited to welcome Diane Shallot, a retired music teacher, who is coming every Monday to work with them using the ORFF instruments. You should hear the joyful noise they are making!

On Wednesday, RAs and GAs met with Reverend Mathis in the Sanctuary to observe Ash Wednesday. It was a very special time.

The staff had an in-service training time with Curtis Collins from the Health Department. They enjoyed a meal and learning more about “emotional regulation” as it pertains to working with children.

First Explorers is full of enrichment, learning, and fun!

Sylva First Wednesday Returns TONIGHT, March 1!

Join us for a time of table fellowship TONIGHT, March 1! Whether food from your kitchen, the grocery store, or a restaurant, you may put your food offering on the tables in the MFC beginning at 5:15 p.m. A blessing will be offered at 5:30 p.m, and then we will dig in!

At 6:00 p.m., we will watch the fifth episode, season two, of the series, The Chosen. In this episode titled, “Spirit,” Jesus is now pursued by Simon the Zealot, Atticus, and Shmuel after stirring the water. John the Baptizer visits the group and tells Jesus his dangerous mission. Meanwhile, back at the camp, Mary Magdalene is devastated by an encounter with a mysterious and dangerous stranger.

We look forward to seeing you and your family!  Children have their own dedicated time together while the adults and youth watch The Chosen in the Mission and Fellowship Center.

Learning, Sharing, Listening, Growing

Beginning Wednesday, March 8 at 6:00 PM
in the Gathering Place Room

Join us for a season of discovery as we learn how our personal narrative has shaped and influenced our lives. With the help of the enneagram and the book, The Story of You: An Enneagram Journey to Becoming Your True Self by Ian Cron, we will learn the joy of knowing that God helps us write a new and healthier story to live by. This multi-week experience will serve as both an introduction and enrichment to the enneagram as a tool for better understanding ourselves in relationship to the world around us. Please RSVP by Monday, March 6 at noon for childcare in advance by contacting our church office: 828-586-2095,  fbcsylva@gmail.com.

Hurray for Our Nursery Workers of the Week!

Thank you, Brooke Drum, and Lucie Moore, for working in the nursery this past Sunday.
The children had lots of fun!

On March 5, Judy Henderson will be in charge of the nursery.

Thank you, Judy!

There is still room on the schedule to serve “the least of these”
on Sunday mornings.  It is a blessing to see their smiles and enthusiasm as you spend
time with our infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
Please contact Cheryl Beck (cabeck@ncsu.edu) if you would like to help.
