Christmas Break Food Bag Project Due TODAY at 3:00 p.m.!
United Christian Ministries’ annual food drive to collect food for school children and their families during the Christmas break. This year, our church has committed to collect 250 boxes of cereal.
WE STILL NEED 150 MORE.
The cereal we collect will be combined with other food items in a bag and will be a blessing to families who struggle with good insecurity. Please drop off regularly sized boxes of cereal (not the family sized boxes, please, as they are too big for the food bags) in the Loving Kindness Room outside of the church sanctuary. Our offering of cereal boxes is due by December 15.
Christmas Offering
Consider giving a gift that will extend the work of Christ’s Kingdom in our community! This year, choose to give a gift in honor or memory of someone special through our Christmas Offering. All proceeds of the Christmas Offering will be used to further the mission and ministry of First Baptist Church in our town and around the world. When you contribute to our Christmas Offering, the church will send a Christmas card to the person you choose to honor. Christmas Offering envelopes are available in both the pew racks in our sanctuary and our church office.
Cantata: Born a Savior, Born a King
It's that time of year! The Sanctuary Choir will be presenting the annual Christmas Special Music program this Sunday, December 11 at the 10:30 worship hour. The cantata is subtitled "The Prophecy Fulfilled," and tells the story through musical descriptions of the joy, wonder, and excitement that filled the air on that first Christmas. The composer, John Purifoy, has combined familiar carols and new musical stylizations, in a setting which is appealing to all. The story is presented in Scripture and verse by narrators Arlin Middleton and Teresa Dietz Manring. The choir, accompanied by organist Lorie Meservey, and pianist Linda Stewart present the full range of expression, from the dramatic "Deliver Us, Lord!" to the tender "He is Born Now, the Prince of Peace." The choir and members of the music ministry have invested great time and energy to this project, and we hope that you will be in church to experience the joyful message.
1st Explorers Update
Advent was the theme for the after school ministry last week. Chapel time focused on the message of “Hope”
Eleanor Brown and Lucia Smithdeal, the older young ladies in 1st Explorers, are leading a bulb project that Diane and Charlie White donated to the program. (see photo). This is a great follow up to the herb project the children completed a couple of weeks ago.
Excitement was in the air throughout the week as 1st Explorers made handmade ornaments using a variety of materials from the art supply closet. A Christmas tree was placed in the corner and the children are decorating it with their original designs.
Again, thank you to all the volunteers and the wonderful staff headed up by Melanie Stokely. We are blessed to have all of you!
Recipes Appreciated!
Each week we include a recipe in the Church Chimes and we hope that you are enjoying reading and trying them. You can add your favorite recipes to the Chimes by sending them to Cheryl Beck at cabeck@ncsu.edu. This is an ongoing WMU project.
Thanks for participating!
